Gareth Ainsworth pulled no punches as he saw his side suffer a heavy 3-0 defeat to Stevenage, labelling it the 'worst performance of the season'.

Goals from Steve Schumacher, Matt Godden and Tom Pett saw Boro record a very easy win over Wanderers, who created very little throughout the game at the Lamex Stadium.

The Wycombe manager gave a typically honest review of his team's limp display in Hertfordshire yesterday. He said: "It was just not good enough.

"We looked very bad, very one-dimensional. When it isn't going right for Bayo we seem to run out of ideas.

"We also gifted them two goals and then to concede after half-time was a terrible goal to give away.

"Stevenage played well and we didn't really have any firepower but one defeat doesn't make a season and we are looking forward to Tuesday to get back on it."

As ever, Ainsworth looked to take positives out of such a poor performance. He added: "Sometimes defeats like this can bring you back down to earth.

"Maybe it has taken this game for us to regain our focus on the league and that isn't always a bad thing. The bad thing is when it happens three or four times in a row."

After being so stubborn in defence in the last couple of months, Ainsworth explained that leaking 13 goals in the last four away games in all competitions is a cause for concern.

He commented: "It concerns me because we have been so solid. In the league we need to shore up the defence.

"We need to start playing more football in the opposition half. Sometimes you can't put your finger on it. It didn't click in this game but it will do on Tuesday."
