Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth heaped praise on the Wycombe supporters who came in their droves to cheer the Blues to a 2-0 win over Barnet on Saturday.

Goals from Joe Jacobson and Luke O'Nien sealed a first win in four for the Chairboys, who sit fourth, level on points with third-placed Notts County as the race for promotion hots up.

Over 1,000 Wycombe fans saw their team prevail in the bitterly cold conditions at The Hive and Ainsworth lauded their support.

He said: "The fans were magnificent, absolutely magnificent.

"We have had a couple of dodgy results and hadn't won for three games but they showed no nerves. They were confident today.

"That first half free-kick melee where Barnet hit the bar was probably their one and only major chance and if that went in it would have been a different game.

"I think the fans helped in keeping them out and second half we took total control of the game.

"Fair play to Barnet first half, they caused us problems and their centre halves dealt with Bayo [Adebayo Akinfenwa] very well.

"We made some tiny tactical adjustments in the second half and we took full advantage of that."

Defensively, Wanderers have been excellent in the past two games without keeping a clean sheet and Ainsworth was delighted they kept a shut-out against The Bees.

He added: "I was really pleased to see Sido Jombati back and he was great at the back.

"He kept John Akinde quiet last season and did the same again. He was really solid alongside Adam El-Abd.

"For JJ and Tafari Moore it was great to keep a clean sheet away from home and it is a fantastic result for us."

Arguably, the star man was Nick Freeman who caused Barnet problems with his direct running before succumbing to an injury late on.

Ainsworth said: "Nick has deserved his chance. The fans want him in there but who are you going to drop?

"We have so many good names going forward but I thought Nick took his chance really well. Unfortunately, he has come off with a tweak to his groin.

"Hopefully the injury isn't too bad but he then goes off and Scotty Kashket comes on and he performs well too.

"It is great to see the strikers doing well and it is great to be able to rotate around Akinfenwa.

"The midfield were terrific too. I think Dominic Gape is having a great season.

"Luke gets the goals, Blooms does the running and I think Dom is a bit of an unsung hero sometimes.

"Dom is such a stalwart in that middle. He wins headers and tackles and is so calm on the ball and it was important to get back on track."
