Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Dominic Gape admitted he will never ever forget the moment he scored his winning goal to seal the Chairboys promotion to League One.

Gape thumped home a 76th minute winner to seal a 2-1 victory over Chesterfield and send the Blues supporters wild in the away end.

As soon as the final whistle went, huge celebrations went on at the Proact Stadium and an emotional Gape was overjoyed after the game.

He said: "It hasn't really sunk in yet and it is unbelievable.

"They are a special group of boys in this squad and we have worked hard all season for this.

"We have seized the opportunity and it is Leagoe One football for Wycombe Wanderers next year."

Incredibly, it was Gape's first goal of the season and he joked it wasn't for the want of trying.

He added: "I stay out with Dobbo [Richard Dobson] most days practicing but maybe I was saving this one for a special occasion.

"I thought technique, technique, technique and get my boot over and give it a clean strike and when it flew in I didn't know whether to cry or go crazy.

"I couldn't be happier celebrating with these boys. There isn't a better group of boys in the country than the boys we have here.

"This group of boys are very special.

"Everyone has to savour this moment because moments like this don't come along in football too often.

"Fortunately, this is my second season in professional football and I have a promotion so I am not doing too badly but we need to grab onto this and use this as a catalyst for next season as well.

"It shows we have a hell of a squad here and Chesterfield played some good stuff and we had to work hard for it.

"This is a very special day for me personally and for all the boys."

Next season, The Blues will come up against one of the biggest clubs in the country, Sunderland.

Gape explained he has played there before but it will be slightly different this time around.

The former Southampton midfielder joked: "I have played there a few times but that was youth football and it will be nice to play there this time in front of a few fans. I am really looking forward to it."

Gape summed the day up by adding: "Today is a day I will never forget."
