O'Neill: Relegation would be 'tragedy' for Blues O'Neill: Relegation would be 'tragedy' for Blues

MARTIN O'Neill said it would be a 'real tragedy' if Wanderers were to be relegated in their 125th season.

The legendary former Blues boss guided the club into the Football League in the early 90s but a poor start to this season has left Wanderers just above the drop zone back into non-league football.

And O'Neill said that while the club would be well equipped to bounce back if the worst happened, he hopes it doesn't come to that.

He said: "It's difficult times for the football club. Hopefully they can stave off relegation this season - that would be very, very important. To drop back down out of the league would be a real tragedy for us. I'm sure given enough time it can be pulled round.

"You don't want to see the club struggle. It's had a great old history, even long before I came here.

"While the club can always come back, I don't want it to go down there for it to come back. You want it to remain here."
