Wood hoping for shoot shouts

WINGER Sam Wood hopes to hear a few more shouts of 'shoot' from Wanderers fans after his opening day goal.

He scored a goal of the season contender in the campaign's curtain raiser at York as he volleyed home from fully 35 yards.

But while he admits his goalscoring record isn't the best, he's hoping to have some fun with fans if he gets within sight of the opposition goal.

Wood said: "I was having a joke the other day of making a habit of scoring 35 yarders. I'll probably get the crowd saying 'shoot' every time I get it 35 yards out.

"That's the fun part of it, to get the crowd behind us. That takes the momentum onto the pitch and it boosts the boys."

If history is anything to go, his strike at Bootham Crescent will be the first of four he manages this season.

He said: "When I first started, I had one in my first season, two in my second and three in the next - that's what I was working on."
