ANNEKA Nuttall cut a frustrated figure on Sunday.

The Chesham United Ladies striker has scored in every game this season but her turn on the bench coincided with an FA Cup tie that was as one-sided as it gets.

By half-time Nuttall had seen her replacement Gemma Fraser cash in with a hat-trick as Chesham raced into a 5-0 interval lead over Northampton’s Roade.

Nuttall needn’t have worried though. She came on for the second period and that was time enough for her to bag a treble of her own in resounding 15-0 victory.

Fraser finished with five goals, Dawn Campbell hit three more with Caroline Moran (2), Leah Asante and Kat Bowers also on target.

Manager Lisa Welling said: “We are a couple of leagues above Roade, but the performance was good. We kept the ball on the ground and didn’t go long.

“We didn’t go chasing goals, despite the score.

“Our record is actually 25-0, but that was two or three years ago against a team that didn’t have enough players.”

Chesham’s win earns them an FA Women’s Cup first round proper tie at Enfield on December 9, but the focus this year is promotion.

Welling said: “I’ve run Chesham Ladies for 16 years and this is the best group of players that we’ve had.

“We’re as high as we’ve ever been before.

“We’re top of the South East Combination League now and if we win it we’ll go to the National Premier League, which is the highest level of amateur women’s football.”

Enfield and Chichester are their two main challengers, but that will have to be put on the backburner for a few weeks with cup competitions dominating the agenda.

On Sunday they host City Belles from Milton Keynes in the County Cup, before a League Cup trip to Brentwood the following weekend.

The two sides meet in the league next weekend too, before it’s Enfield in The FA Women’s Cup.

Welling said: “The aim is to get promoted and then compete at that level.

“If we can beat Enfield we might get a chance to play teams from the league above and then we’ll be able to really see where we are.”

Apart from the senior team, Chesham Ladies run six junior teams. Girls from seven up are invited to take part.
