PRINCES Risborough RFC are still at the bottom of the BB&O Premier League table, but they are at last looking up after ending their long wait for a win last Saturday.

They broke their duck with 30-23 victory over Bicester which drags them to within two points of the team directly above them, who they play in their next home match.

Chairman Andy Emmett said: “It was a long time in coming, but that was just about the first time this season we’ve been able to field something like our full side and we showed what we can do.

“We started the season with a very strong side, but we lost some players to injury and we’ve been getting found out a bit.

“The supply going out wide and the defence wasn’t as good as it should have been, but we’ve worked on that in a big way and we’re starting to turn the corner.”

Tomorrow’s trip to second-placed Chipping Norton might slow down the recovery, but Risborough will hope the visit of Harwell will back up last weekend’s win.

Emmett said: “We’ve got them in our sights and we’ve just got to go out there and go for them to make sure we take some momentum through the Christmas break into the second half of the season.”

Of Risborough’s seven league defeats this season, two were forfeited as the club weren’t able to field a front row, and Emmett admits morale was taking a bit of a beating.

He said: “When you’re getting beaten every week – and we were getting beaten quite convincingly at some points – it’s difficult for players and coaches alike to stay positive.

“But all of a sudden that one win gives everyone that confidence to keep moving forward.”
