BUCKS teenage snooker sensation Sonnie O’Sullivan has been crowned Cuestars South of England U21 champion after winning a dramatic top-16 shoot-out.

O’Sullivan, just 16, booked his place in the championship showpiece at Jesters Snooker Hall after finishing fourth in the prestigious Cuestars Gold League.

And the 16-year-old came out on top after beating home favourite Ollie Parsons 3-0 in a high pressure final.

O’Sullivan said: “I came up against some really good players but managed to produce some of my best snooker when it mattered most.”

O’Sullivan, who continues to make the headlines with his impressive victories, believed his quarter and semi-final matches were like ‘a hard fought out battle’.

The quarter-final match had him pitted against another home player, Joshua Lee.

O’Sullivan, though, was in scintillating form and did not drop a single frame to his opponent.

He said: “Joshua played three great frames and I don’t think the scoreline was a fair reflection of what really happened.”

O’Sullivan then moved on to face rankings leader Thomas Lancastle.

Lancastle had amassed more than 100 tour points and O’Sullivan knew this would be one of his toughest ever matches.

Both players showed their worth in a five-frame thriller which lasted four hours.

O’Sullivan once again had the edge, maintaining his extremely high standards and seeing himself through to the final.

With only Parsons to defeat, O’Sullivan was in a rich vein of form and triumphed in the final, exhibiting potting skills even namesake Ronnie would be wary of.

Winning the final tournament of the season, the young Cuestar has laid the foundations to compete in the English Association of Snooker & Billiards (EASB) junior tour, a step away from the pro’s.

He said: “If you want to get anywhere, you need to go through the EASB junior tours.

“You need to be playing the best players in the country.”

His focus is now to obtain a top three finish in the EASB junior league.
