HIGH Wycombe Ladies cricket team want to put their town on the map in the autumn with an ambitious tour to one of the sports traditional hotbeds.

They are planning a ten-day visit to the West Indies at the end of October, when they will play up to four matches against teams from the island.

Team manager Hilda Stearn said: “We want to promote women’s cricket and thought that going to Barbados would really put us on the map.

“Most teams go on tour to the north or south west of England, but we wanted to do something that is eye-catching and the West Indies does have a bit of a reputation in cricket.

“It’s one of the homes of cricket.”

However, to achieve their goal the 15-strong touring party will need to raise £20,000.

A large fundraising programme is being organised.

The tour is the next step in the development of the women’s team, which has only been in existence for three years.

After a debut season in the now defunct Bucks league, they switched to the North London League and under captain Angeli Lotay have been very competitive despite their inexperience.

Indoor nets for the coming season begin in.the first week of March at the Royal Grammar School, with outdoor training beginning at the London Road in April.
