WYCOMBE Hockey Club could be on the verge of more national success as their U16s become the latest team to chase glory against the best in the country.

The club’s junior section has celebrated indoor and outdoor triumph in recent years and this weekend it’s the turn of the U16 girls as they head to Wakefield for the national finals.

They travel north in good shape after a 5-1 walloping of Teddington in the Premier League last weekend.

Ella Hodge scored twice alongside goals from Jenna Wyllie, Laura Drysdale and Rosie Campion in a result which elevated them to third.

A big win against the bottom side could see them climb another spot before the end of the season.

They go to Wakefield this weekend hoping to continue the success the club’s youth teams have enjoyed on the national stage in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Chris Goodchild scored twice as Wycombe men enjoyed a 3-2 victory at Witney.

Witney are bottom of the MBBO Regional 1 with two wins from 21 games, but they pushed Wycombe all the way with Chris Bollom’s goal eventually proving the difference.

Wycombe end their season with another away game tomorrow, when they go to Wallingford.

Meanwhile, Wycombe 2s triumphed 3-1 against Ashford 2s with goals from Ben Clarke, Dylan Lim-Hon and Paul Stinchcombe.

The third team were beaten 1-0 by Gerrards Cross and Wycombe 4s went down in a high-scoring match with Reading Uni Knights.

They lost 5-3, with Daniel Aldridge, Jason Barnes and Mark Redpath their scorers.

Elsewhere, Wycombe 5s were too good for West Hampstead in a 4-0 victory.

Richard Bibby, Joe Bracey, Joe Daly and Chris Power were on target for them.

Meanwhile, in the Mercian U14 Boys Development League Wycombe’s A and B teams both took maximum points.

The A team won 3-1 over Eastcote thanks to goals from David Jones, Jared Moehl and Kit Walker while Joseph Allnutt, Christian Donachie and Saleem Iqbal struck in a 3-0 win for Wycombe B against Maidenhead.
