WYCOMBE HC U16 girls weren’t able to progress from the groups at the National Finals in Wakefield last weekend.

They beat Bowden 2-1 thanks to a brace from Ellie Wheeler, but defeats to Beeston and eventual winner Surbition meant they missed out on a place in the knockouts.

Emily Hacking equalised in their first match with Beeston, but they weren’t able to add another during their period of ascendancy and two Beeston goals after half time consigned them to a 3-1 defeat.

Next up was Surbiton, who they drew with in the Home Counties Premier Division.

But Surbiton two goals in each half meant Wycombe’s chances of reaching the final were over.

They did rally to beat Bowden 2-1 in their final game, but needed a greater margin to force their way into the third and fourth place play-off.

Meanwhile, Wycombe men’s first team were hammered 8-2 by Wallingford with Chris Pedrick claiming both consolations.

The second team were also involved in a goal-fest, sharing a 7-7 draw with Bicester.

Ben Clarke scored a hat-trick with Ben Cutler adding a brace alongside singles from Robbie Leung and Tim Weston.

Wycombe 3s beat Witney 3-1 courtesy of goals from Jason Jarville, Dylan Lim-Hon and Phil Lloyd, Wycombe 4s (Stephen Cavanagh) lost 6-1 to Aylesbury and Wycombe 5s ran out 3-1 winners against Sonning 5 thanks to Owen Hunt, Chris Power and Damian Power.
