MARLOW CC surrendered top spot in the Thames Valley League with a defeat to title rivals Kew last weekend.

The Bucks side lost the toss and were inserted, but runs were hard to come by while wickets fell regularly.

It wasn’t until captain Graeme Paskins (35) put on 61 for the third wicket with Dave Quamil (93) that Marlow got into the match but once Paskins fell three more wickets went quickly and they needed a brisk 40 from Quamil and Simon Carter (14 not out) to reach 175-6 in 52 overs.

Marlow opened up with spin and kept a lid on the match as Kew ambled to 90-2 after 32 overs.

However, Kew’s Abhishek Jhunjhunwala grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with 59 in 30 balls, including four fours and six sixes.

His assault eased Kew home with 20 balls to spare as they moved clear at the top of the table, five points ahead of Wokingham and eight above Marlow.

Meanwhile, Marlow 3s were beaten by Amersham after losing the toss and being inserted.

They were quickly reduced to 30-4 before Ryan Yates (29) and Ben Paskins (25) put on 53 to get their team up to 102.

Hugh Peel (2-7 off six overs) impressed with ball in hand and Marlow took seven Amersham wickets, but it wasn’t enough to stave off defeat.
