FATHER and son Graeme and Nick Paskins couldn’t prevent Bucks CCC sliding to another Unicorns Counties Eastern Division match this week, as the brother of England batsman Joe Root scored a double century in Suffolk’s huge win.

Paskins senior was back as a late replacement for the first time in seven years, while Marlow team-mate Nick was playing his first ever county match.

But despite a valiant unbeaten half-century on debut from Paskins junior, Bucks were well beaten by nine wickets.

They batted first and Nick Paskins’ 57 not out after a knock of 132 from Shaan Khan helped them reach 320.

They were hampered by a calf injury to captain Jason Harrison, who retired hurt, but more damage was done by Suffolk’s Martyn Cull and Bill Root, who batted them to death with a third-wicket partnership of 225.

Cull made 120 while Root ended unbeaten on 210 as Suffolk powered to 448-5.

Gerrards Cross’ Tom Hampton and Matt Rance of Chesham took three and two wickets respectively, but it wasn’t a day to be a Bucks bowler and the batters didn’t do much better in their second innings either.

Trailing by 128, they suffered a collapse against the turning ball and slipped to 69-5.

High Wycombe wicket-keeper George Russell resisted with 58, but Bucks were dismissed on the third morning for 152, leaving Suffolk just 25 to win.

There was time for young High Wycombe seamer Jonathan Burden to take wicket on debut, but Suffolk got home by nine wickets to inflict Bucks’ second defeat in two matches.

They play Safffordshire next at Burnham from July 22-24.

Harrison could miss the match with his calf injury.
