BOOKER Gym Club enhanced its burgeoning reputation with another 15 medals on the international stage.

They sent eight gymnasts to Orlando, Florida for the USAIGC World Championships and excelled both individually and as a club.

With more than 1,200 competitors from around the world taking part, gymnasts were medalled down to fifth place.

In the copper category, Maya Zajac-Acheampong was one of the UK stars as she won gold on the vault.

She also picked up a fourth place finish on the Bars and fifth on the Beam to finish eighth in All Round.

Ciara Higley also got fourth on the Vault and ninth in the All Round, while Phoebe Cotes was fourth on Floor and fifth All Round, plus Isabella Baillieu medalled 16th All Round.

In the bronze group, Charlie Bunt medalled fourth on Floor and Beam and seventh All Round, while Amy Longhurst was fourth on Floor.

In the bronze diamond section, Anna Hunter came home third on Floor and Hana-Marie Cantrell took another Gold for the UK on Vault. Booker also also entered the team event, with their copper team finishing ninth and their bronze team tenth out of 42 teams in total.

The success continues a glittering year for the club, which won 26 medals at the national championships in March while on the tumbling mat five tumblers made it through to the National Finals in Telford last week.

Jack O’Brien was the headline act as he ended the day as NDP level 4 national champion, while Longhust followed up her medal in America with a bronze in NDP level 1 and Freddie Hoskins won bronze in level 3.

Sean Harrison added a silver while Shane Hampden missed out on a medal by just 0.1 points.

Booker’s next big event is the UK Gymnastics Championships in October, when there will be a chance to qualify for the 2015 World Championships.

Meanwhile, the club is urgently seeking sponsorship to help support future international competition.
