HIGH Wycombe’s Stephanie Clitheroe signed off her schools athletics career with a bronze medal at the English Schools Athletics Championship.

She was running for Middlesex in the girls 100m hurdles and proved her class with victory in a new personal best time in the heats.

She came home in 14.08 seconds, a major improvement on her previous best time of 14.40 set at the same meet last summer.

She started strongly in the final too, but was caught going into the penultimate hurdle and had to settle for bronze.

Just ahead of her in silver was Jessica Hunter, Clitheroe’s one-time training partner and former St Bernard’s Catholic School pupil.

One of the most improved performances though came from Wycombe Abbey’s Eloise Davison in the inter girls’ 1,500m.

On paper she didn’t have the times to make it through her heat, but a gutsy final 400m clawed in several athletes and reduced her personal best time to 4.39.70.

She then ran her second fastest time ever in the final to take tenth.

However, injury left Beaconsfield High pupil and Bucks Team captain Olivia Caesar frustrated in the girls’ 400m.

She qualified for the final comfortably, but an injury in the warm up took the shine off her performance and in the end she did well to come home seventh in her last ever ESAA Championship race.

Meanwhile, Becca Croft continued her return to peak form after a serious back injury by reaching the final of the senior girls’ 800m.

She can try again next year, as can Ellie Bilsland of Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School.

She just missed out on a place in the final of the 80m hurdles but gave the Bucks team a dream start in the 4x100m relay.

She handed the baton over in the lead, but Bucks were disqualified after the final leg runner collected the baton outside the change-over zone.
