HIGH Wycombe took seven wickets for the loss of just one run as they hammered Oxford to remain top of the tree.

James Benning, who finished the match on figures of 5-30, and George Harper did the damage at the top of the order as they tore into their hosts.

The first wicket went down with Oxford on 14 before Benning and Harper took centre stage to reduce the hosts to 15-7.

Number seven Shamilal Mendis was the only Oxford batsman to emerge with any credit, contributing 56 of his side's miserly 98 runs as they were skittled after 40.1 overs.

It wasn't plain sailing for Wycombe in the run chase as they lost four wickets, with Benning's unbeaten 37 and captain Matt Eyles hitting 33 not out seeing them over the line.

At the other end of Division One of the Home Counties League Gerrards Cross have been cast adrift as they were beaten for the eighth time in 12 matches.

Three players were dismissed for ducks as the Cross posted 182-9, with tail enders Tom Hampton (43 not out) and Vikram Banerjee, 34, giving their total a little respectability after collapsing to 122-8 at one stage.

Banerjee then took 5-50 but opponents Henley completed a five wicket victory inside 49 overs.
