MARLOW and Beaconsfield will decide who wins the Thames Valley League on Saturday.

They play the two title contenders on the final day of the season knowing their results will decide the outcome of the league.

Marlow, who led the league themselves half way though, go to leaders Kew while Beaconsfield are at home to Datchet, who are eight points off the lead.

No other side has a shot of the championship.

Marlow, who lost at home to Kew by five wickets in early July, take on the leaders after getting the better of drawn game with Yately.

They needed a victory to draw a final line through the faint possibility of relegation but their situation deteriorated quickly as they lost the toss and then lost a wicket with the first ball of the match.

After ten overs they’d limped to 41-3, but Kevin Hudson (89) and Graeme Paskins (45) began the rebuild with a fifth-wicket stand of 84.

Simon Carter’s 40 not out kept the runs flowing as they reached the competitive score of 236-8.

Yately started well with an opening partnership of 41, but Tom Bartlett (2-27) changed the momentum of the game with two quick wickets and Jeremy Batty (4-47) and Mark Dozell (2-26) kept the pressure on.

But Marlow weren’t able to finish the job off as Yately survived on 191-9.

Meanwhile, Beaconsfield were beaten at home by Kidmore End last weekend.

They made 178-6 before Kidmore End replied with 180-7.
