TYRRELL Hatton finished a magnificent third at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland yesterday after missing out on a play-off by a single stroke in a dramatic final round at Crans-sur-Sierre GC.

The 22-year-old Marlow golfer carded rounds of 67, 66, 65 and 65 to finish on -17, just one shot behind Graeme Storm and David Lipsky, who won the play-off.

The result, which earned Hatton more than £103,000, continued a stellar season for the European Tour rookie who has also finished second in the Joburg Open and fourth in the Scottish Open.

With season's earning now passing £430,000, he is up to 40th in the Race to Dubai rankings and can start preparing for the multi-million pound Final Series later in the autumn.

Hatton began the final day in a tie for fifth place, four shots off the lead.

However, three outward birdies moved him through the field before two more coming home consolidated another superb top five finish.

He tweeted: "Really enjoyed my week in Crans, played great all week and to go bogey free on a Sunday is always good!! Onto the KLM Open."
