JORDAN Giles has set his sights on a place in the RYA Laser Radial youth squad to cap a fine summer on the water.

The Marlow 15-year-old will compete for one of ten available places in the RYA development squad at races in Wales, Hayling Island and Plymouth in the next month.

Giles will be quietly confident though after a string of impressive results.

He launched his summer season of racing by winning the Laser Radial NSSA Regatta against 80 other boats, and then competed well again at the Laser National Championships in Scotland.

He was up against more than 100 other sailors but finished 20th overall and second junior.

Giles picked up even more valuable experience when he was invited to compete in the RS200 National Regatta against more than 120 sailors, including Olympian Luke Patience.

It was Giles’ first taste of competition in a double handed boat and the experience was a steep learning curve.
