AMERSHAM & Chiltern weren’t able to start the new South West 3 London season with two away wins in two weeks as they were beaten 16-10 by Tring.

Despite just eight miles between the clubs, it was their first ever league meeting.

But it was Tring who began brighter with a penalty and try giving them an early 10-0 lead.

Amersham, forced into changes from last week and slightly dirupted, were further challenged when wing Joe Stevens had to depart with an injury.

However, they gradually began to settle and were rewarded when Tom Blackburn broke two tackles to go over.

David John converted to make it 10-7 at the break and they should have gone in front at the start of the second, only to drop the ball over the line.

Tring responded by stretching their lead with another penalty, and although John struck back off the tee to cut the gap to three points again, handling errors frustrated them in attack and Tring moved out to 16-10 with another kick.

Amersham spent the final ten minutes of the match in Tring territory, but couldn’t find a way through.

They host Bury St Edmunds on Saturday.
