BEACONSFIELD RFC are up to fifth place in Southern Counties North after a 28-13 win at Alchester.

After absorbing early pressure, Andy Brodie ran the ball under the posts for Beaconsfield’s first try and Ross Richie made it 10-0 with a conversion and penalty.

The hosts got back into it with a try of their own, but Richie finished off a line-out move to go over for Beaconsfield’s second try and another penalty gave them an 18-7 interval lead.

Two Alchester penalties at the start of the second half put the game back in the melting pot, but Beaconsfield didn’t panic and James Watson made the game safe before, in injury time, Brodie nailed down the try bonus.

Man of the match was 18-year-old James Crossley, making his first start after impressing from the bench in the two previous games.

Head coach Simon Tattersall said: “He’s been phenomenal since day one. It’s his first season but he’s not fazed by anything. We’ve been really impressed with him.”

Beaconsfield have a week off before taking on Aylesbury next Saturday.

Meanwhile, High Wycombe RUFC lost 20-15 at Thatcham.

They also have the weekend off before returning league action the following Saturday when leaders Stow-on-the-Wold come to Kingsmead.
