SIR William Borlase’s first XV rugby squad returned to school last month after an exotic once-in-a-lifetime summer tour.

They spent three weeks travelling around Singapore, the east coast of Australia and Indonesia.

They won four of their six games, with a victory over the Singapore National U19 squad the highlight.

On the back of this, the school is already planning the next senior tour, while in January they will meet one of their Australian opponents this summer in the home leg.

On the water, 11 Sir William Borlase’s pupils have represented GB this summer, taking five international medals.

Chris Lawrie deserves special mention after rowing to fourth place in the Youth Olympics.

He said: “I am really pleased with fourth place, it is probably one of the best races I have ever done.

“I have never raced the single internationally before so to come so close to a medal was great and I am really pleased.

“I had no idea where I would be but this is way better than I ever thought I could do.”

“I am going to take away from this all the experience I can and hopefully go away and have a better season next time. We have a long period of training up until the spring so I will just be doing lots of work, going to the gym, getting fit and seeing what I can do next year.”

Meanwhile, the school has also had much to cheer on the hockey field, with seven junior internationals, an U18 indoor silver for the girls, a national U18 outdoor quarter-final for the boys, a South championship for the U14 boys and nine other indoor and outdoor South finalists.

Sir William Borlase’s also had three county championship winning teams and 47 players making it through to represent Bucks.

This season the school has 240 hockey players in 11 outdoor squads and four indoor squads.
