CHALFONT St Peter manager Danny Edwards thinks an FA Cup win against Evesham tomorrow could support the club financially for up to two years.

They are taking on Evesham in the third qualifying round with £7,500 at stake.

If they come through that their prize money from the competition this season would be approaching £20,000.

Edwards said: “Winning could stabilise the club for a season, maybe two.

“If you offered any club at our level a cheque for £20,000 they’d bite your hand off.”

However, Edwards admits he wouldn’t expect to see much of that invested in the first team.

He said: “Dennis [Mair, chairman] is a one-man band and that would be money he wouldn’t have to find from somewhere else.

“I’d be happy for him to invest it into training facilities, the pitch, the youth structure.

“To be honest I’d rather see four youth teams kitted out than that money to come to the first team.”

Saints will need to raise their level to have an option though, after losing a madcap Southern League Central match 6-5 to Potters Bar on Tuesday night.

Remmel Clarke (2), Tom Mudge, Aaron Lansiquot and Daniel Ailey scored for the hosts on a horror night for the defenders.

That 11-goal frenzy came after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with St Ives Town.

Edwards said: “I’d like to think we didn’t have one eye on Saturday. I made it clear that the last two games were more important than The FA Cup so I was bitterly disappointed to take one point from six when our target was four minimum.

“But Tuesday was the worst defensive performance I’ve seen at the club for a long time.

“When you score five at home you expect to win the game but we were very fragile defensively.

“To do that ten days after beating Kettering 1-0 away isn’t good. I actually think Potters Bar are better going forward than Kettering and I wouldn’t have been surprised it if had finished 10-10.”

Meanwhile, Flackwell Heath are also still flying the flag for Bucks in The FA Cup. The Hellenic Premier League side host Weston Supermare for a place in the fourth qualifying round.
