ANDY Leese expects the real Chesham United to stand up on Saturday after they were knocked out of The FA Trophy by Burgess Hill last weekend.

They were beaten 2-0, but Leese has called for a positive reaction when they go to second-placed Corby Town in the Southern League Premier Division on Saturday.

He said: “Last Saturday was a thoroughly disappointing afternoon.

“We never came out of the dressing room for the second half and there is no rhyme or reason for it.

“We’d been on a good run but we just never got going.

“Take nothing away from Burgess Hill though, they’re a good side. They’ve lost just one game all season and that was to a Conference side.

“But we gave them an easier afternoon than we wanted to.

“But the players will be challenged to respond and I think they will.

“Corby will be a tough ask but we’d love three points because we’re behind the targets we set ourselves ourselves at the beginning of the season.“

To do it though, they will have to shore up a defence that has been creaking lately, with 12 goals conceded in the last five games.

Leese said: “It’s not just the back four and the goalkeeper, it’s across the team.

“We’ve had a good run but this is just one of those spells.

“But there were massive changes during the summer and I’ve said before I think it will take until the second half of the season to settle down.

“That’s not a young manager looking for excuses, that’s an old manager talking from experience.”
