BEACONSFIELD RFC coach Simon Tattersall believes the team that keeps their emotions in check on Saturday will win the big Bucks derby.

Beaconsfield go to High Wycombe in the Southern Counties League before taking on Marlow the week later.

It’s the first time in a number of years all three clubs have been grouped together in the same league and Tattersall expects emotions to run high.

He said: “We’ve got two big games back to back – it’s great for the local clubs. A lot of the players know each other so I’m sure it will be competitive but played in the right spirit.

“We’ve just got to try to isolate it as another opponent that we want to beat.”

High Wycombe are the form team with five wins from seven games to sit third in the table.

Beaconsfield are down in eighth, nine points further back.

Tattersall said: “We’re the underdogs and we’re quite comfortable with that.

“We feel we know what Wycombe’s strengths are and we will be prepared.”

But while the old cliche about form going out the window in derbies isn’t always true, Tattersall thinks the league table won’t mean anything come 12.30 tomorrow.

He said: “The players don’t need motivating for these games. I’ve played in enough local derbies to know that.

“As coaches we have to try to keep a lid on things.

“Before the game we have to make sure the players don’t go over the top and give them two or three clear tactical things to focus on when they go out there.

“I’m sure there will be an added edge and an added physicality.

“But if you go out there trying to prove a point against your opposite number you will forget the collective and then you’re not going to win the game.

“It’s about whoever controls their emotions best and discipline will be huge. Our discipline hasn’t been the best but this time we have got to keep 15 players on the pitch.”
