MARLOW manager Mark Bartley has urged Wanderers scouts to get down to Oak Tree Road before they miss out on another attacking talent.

Ben Gladwin had been attracting scouts from around the country before signing for Swindon from under Blues’ noses this time last year.

Now Bartley believes he has another attacking midfielder destined for the Football League in 19-year-old Devontae Romeo.

He said: “I had the pleasure of working with Ben and I think Devontae has frightening qualities too.

“He could make a career of this game and I don’t want Wanderers to miss out on another player.

“I’d like them to at least have a look at him before he goes somewhere else.”

Crystal Palace scouts were at Marlow’s match two weekends ago and Romeo is also being monitored by Swindon after impressing in a trial game there.

Bartley said: “He is exactly what I thought he could be when I brought him here.

“He’s always had the ability to go around people but now he’s got that quality in the final third as well and is getting plenty of assists.

“He’s got great feet, he moves the ball about well and plays at the right tempo.

“He trains really hard and is a player that can just turn a game.

“It’s not just me saying it either. Other managers have said he’s special and although he doesn’t have the physical stature of Ben he is absolutely fearless and really gets stuck in.

“He has already played near on 60 games in men’s football and I’ve got no doubt he can play League football – it just depends who gets hold of him and how they develop him.”

Romeo was prominent in Marlow’s 2-1 win over Potters Bar in the Southern League Central division on Saturday, although it was a player who has already played for Wanderers who stole the headlines.

Chris Ovenden gave Blues the lead and after Potter Bar levelled it was left to Nathan Ashton to snatch all three points for Marlow with a rasping drive in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Bartley said: “We deserved the win. It felt as though they were going to nick a point but we got our rewards right at the very end.”

Marlow won again on Tuesday night when they knocked Burnham out of the Berks and Bucks Cup on penalties.

The game finished 2-2 but Marlow, despite going down to ten men in the 52nd minute, held their nerve to progress.
