A NINE-year old rugby supporter from Beaconsfield has described his days inside England’s inner sanctum as the ‘best of his life’.

Olly Gandy, a nine-year-old pupil at Tylers Green Middle School, won a fans’ photo competition to meet and train with England as they prepared for last Saturday's Test with South Africa at Twickenham.

Apart from meeting the players and coaches, taking part in a kicking session with England fly halves Owen Farrell and George Ford and having one-to-one chats with stars of the team, Olly and dad Peter were also invited to Twickenham on matchday.

After an interview on Sky Sports News, Gandy was shown his picture on the Fan Wall inside the players’ tunnel before being given a pre kick-off tour of the England dressing room and museum.

He said: “I enjoyed it all so much. Rugby is my favourite sport and it was very interesting to find out what it is like to be an England player and very exciting to watch them play.

“The past couple of days have been some of the best in my life. I feel like I know the players now and I really want to play for England one day.”

But the week started for Gandy, who plays for Beaconsfield U10s, on Thursday, when he joined England at their training camp at Penny Hill Park.

After kicking and catching with Farrell, Ford and Mike Catt, Gandy saw the pack put through their paces by forwards coach Graham Rowntree and then chatted to the likes of Danny Care, Marland Yarde, Mike Catt, captain Chris Robshaw and head coach Stuart Lancaster.

He said: “They were all really nice to me, especially Danny Care, Dylan Hartley and Anthony Watson.

“It was an absolutely amazing experience, which really made me feel like part of the England rugby family.”
