GAYHURST and Gerrards Cross were the big winners at the second inter-schools cross country meeting of the season as they both picked up three team gold medals.

The year 3, 4 and 6 boys' races were all won by the team from Gayhurst, based in Chalfont St Peter, as the best of the county's young runners went head-to-head in Chesham on Saturday.

Not to be outdone Gerrards Cross School also secured a hat trick of team golds in the girls' races at year 4, 5 and 6 level.

In the year 3 races the winners of the season's first meeting backed up victory by claiming a second successive gold medal, with Gayhurst's George Beddoe winning the boys' race and Frankie Baxter of St Mary's School winning the girls' race.

Finley Connoly of Gayhurst and Aaron Gladman of Chalfont St Peter were silver medalists in the boys' race, while Lesedi Nkoane of Chartridge and Katie Reid of Gerrards Cross were second and third in the girls' race.

Gayhurst School won team gold in the year four boys' race despite Oakley Denson of Great Missenden's Gateway School being the first past the post. Sam Matthews of Gayhurst came second and Great Missenden's Jack Kingham finished third. In the girls' race Rosa Williams of Gerrards Cross won a second silver medal of the series, finishing behind Maddie Hughes from St Mary's. Bronze went to Godstowe's Serena Pallenburg.

Matt Aldred was another to claim his second medal of the series as he took gold in the year five boys' race, having won bronze last time out. Cormac Nisbet of Gateway was second and Bailey Cameron's bronze medal helped Amersham's Beacon School claim the team gold award.

Abbie Henderson won a second successive gold medal with a strong performance in the year five girls' race, finishing ahead of her Gerrards Cross team mate Holly Henderson as they took another team gold. Olivia Edwards of Chesham Prep edged out Carys Arnold of Dair House on the line to take bronze.

It was another clear win for Aaron Phillips of Gayhurst in the year 6 boys’ race, while Orla Williams of Gerrards Cross was the winner of the girls' race. Zach Rahaman of Gateway and Thomas Creighton of The Beacon were second and third in the boys' race, while Megan Harris of Godstowe and Helena van Hullen of Chesham Prep were silver and bronze medalists in the girls' race.

The next meeting is at Hervines Park in Amersham on Saturday, January 24.
