Marlow skier Georgia Keys has been selected to race for Team GB in the Czech Republic.

The Sir William Borlase’s student was chosen to fill one of only three places on the Under-14 squad and will compete against a host of other nations in the Ski Interkriterium races taking place in January.

The youngster explained her pride at receiving the call-up and is now looking forward to competing against skiers from other countries.

She said: “I was really excited and proud to be one of only three girls selected to represent Great Britain. Representing your country at 13-years-old is a pretty big thing.”

This will be the first time Keys has represented her country, but it’s an experience she will not be fazed by having already competed in the Austrian Alpine Race System for the last three years.

She said: “I’ve raced a lot against girls of other nationalities, but racing for Team GB is different. I feel nervous and excited. I can’t wait.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve never been to the Czech Republic before, so I’m looking forward to that.”

The 13-year-old, who is sponsored by The Marlow Club, will also have her sights set on the British Championships in France at Easter – a competition she finished second overall in at Under-13 level in last year’s championships.

The event will give Keys the chance to test herself against the best, and an opportunity to earn selection for future Team GB squads.

“It’s the only British race I do in the season, so I get a chance to see how I perform against my peers.

“It’s right at the end of the season, about three or four weeks after my Austrian races finish, so I don’t really do any training beforehand. It’s just more of a fun race for me, but it is considered in the selection to the British team for next season so it’s important.”
