Pupils from Wycombe High School made a splash when they ventured to the Olympic Park to compete in the ESSA National Schools Finals.

The girls caught a glimpse of diving ace Tom Daley before competing at the London Aquatic Centre on November 22.

A healthy crowd was in attendance to see a junior team consisting of Maia Gehrmann, Phebe Haynes-Shariff, Madeline Turner and Naveesha Karunanayaka finish eighth in their fast heat resulting in a 14th place finish overall.

The senior team contained pupils Isabelle Baxter, Bethany Hirst, Lara Reed, Sophie Millen and Christy Sadler, with the girls reaching the final of the freestyle relay where they finished sixth.

An intermediate team made up of Millie Sansome, Lucy Wheeler, Kate Lees, Rachel Cox and Harriet Pugh made the finals in both their medley and freestyle relays.

A sixth place finish in the medley final was followed up with a fourth place finish in the freestyle final, leaving the school’s Director of Sport Tasha Saint-Smith beaming with pride.

She said: "We are extremely proud of them all and very much look forward to seeing how they develop going forward."
