Chesham United boss Andy Leese could only watch on in despair as his side’s 11-game unbeaten run in the Southern Premier League came to an end against Dunstable Town.

The Generals hadn’t tasted defeat in the league since a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Hemel Hempstead Town back on September 30 – a tremendous run which yielded five wins.

Leese felt his side were not up to scratch in their 3-1 defeat to Dunstable and highlighted poor defending as their undoing.

He said: “It was a poor performance and we were very disappointed on the day. We made some defensive errors in the first half which put the game beyond us; they were from the experienced players as well so they don’t need me to tell them. “We were going under the radar with our results in the league, with a few cup exits in between punctuating that run. We were disappointed to bring that run to an end.”

The gloom of that defeat wasn’t hanging over the Chesham players for long, however, as they bounced back with a convincing 3-0 win away to Arlesey on Tuesday night.

The Generals decimated their opponents with three goals in five first half minutes, with strikes from Ryan Blake and Toby Little following an own goal to kill the game off before half-time.

A strong showing in the second half made sure a clean sheet was preserved to leave Leese suitably happy with a result which moved his side up to eighth in the table.

“I was pleased with the performance on the back of Saturday. It was one of those nights where if you’re not careful then you can come unstuck.

“They may have been down the bottom but they’re set-up well and they’ve been giving everyone a difficult game. I was pleased with the way we applied ourselves, we got the job done early and then played really well in the second half.”
