Mark Bartley is on the hunt for revenge when Marlow host Aylesbury United at Oak Tree Road on Saturday.

The Marlow boss is desperate to see his troops avenge a 5-1 defeat at the hands of United when the sides met earlier in the season, when they lock horns again this weekend.

Bartley admitted that defeat didn’t sit well with him and says his team will be in no doubt of what is expected of them come three o’clock on Saturday.

He told the Free Press: “I don’t like losing and I like getting spanked even less so I’m looking for a bit of revenge. I’m looking to level it up and that’s what I’ll be asking of the players. I’m looking forward to the game and hoping to right a few wrongs.”

The grudge match couldn’t come at a better time for Marlow who head into the fixture having dished out a 4-1 thumping to Potters Bar Town last weekend.

Bartley was effusive in his praise of the performance hailing it as one of their best this season as they moved up to ninth in Division One Central.

“It was probably our most complete performance, certainly for a long time. We’ve had a few good performances this season, but I felt as though it was probably the first time this season where I’ve sat down afterwards to give the players marks out of ten and given everybody at least an eight.

“It was really pleasing from that perspective and it was definitely the most complete performance from us this season.”

Marlow have suffered with a number of injuries recent weeks and it was a player returning to the starting XI from a spell on the sidelines that inspired them to victory against Potters Bar.

Lee Barney scored twice and made the other two on his return to action to underline his importance to the team – a fact Bartley is well aware of.

“He’s a big part of what we do with his goal output, but he’s also embedded himself into the system and the way that we play it. It was good to see that when he came back in on Saturday that it was straight back to business as usual.

“No manager in any league in the world wants to have their top scorer missing and the fact that he came back and scored two and set-up the other two shows just how important he is to us.”
