Richard Kinsey felt his Marlow side were out of sorts during their 24-6 win against Drifters on Saturday as they ended a run of two straight league defeats.

Losses to Beaconsfield and Bicester, either side of reaching the Bucks Cup final, had preceded the weekend’s victory against a side who started the game ninth in the Southern Counties North table.

The win keeps Kinsey and his side sixth in the league, but it was his side’s first half performance which proved a source of annoyance for the head coach.

“I’m pleased with the win not overly pleased with the performance but pleased with the win,” he said.

“I thought the first half we were very out of sorts and I think everyone agrees with each other that the first half was a pretty lacklustre performance. It was a great response after half-time. We had a chat at half-time and got a very good response. The second half was good, very good.”

Marlow have so far struggled on their travels this season having lost all four of their away matches in the league before Saturday’s success.

Some of those defeats have come against sides below them in the table and Kinsey is adamant his team would have posted more points if a full squad was available to him on a regular basis.

“We should have more points on the board. We’ve lost to sides that we should have beaten; it’s as simple as that. There’s nothing that should have stopped us being up and around the top of the league but we’re not.

“You play games against sides that you like to think we’ll beat but when you’re five or six men down then you can’t say that you’ll beat them. The boys that do turn up always try as hard as they can but you just can’t expect them to understand the game plan as well as everyone else.”

Fourth place Thatcham are next up for Marlow on Saturday in the club’s final game before a break which doesn’t see them play again until January 10, 2015.
