Romone Rose bagged a goal on his Marlow debut as the ex-QPR forward helped his new club to a 3-0 victory against local rivals Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who signed on at Oak Tree Road after his release from Conference South side Staines Town last week, scored the opener in the first half before strikes from Nathan Ashton and Jamal Branker sealed the win.

Marlow boss Mark Bartley was delighted with the instant impact made by the club’s new signing as he saw his side win for the first time in eight attempts.

He said: “What Romone showed was that he is better than this level and he was top-drawer all day. His goal was really well taken.

“It was a goal that not many players at this level could have taken with the way that he took it. I was very, very pleased with him. He added a lot to us and I think that was evident to anyone watching.”

Rose has previously played in the Football League with Northampton Town, Cheltenham Town and Torquay United, and Bartley feels that good performances for the Blues will help propel him back up the football ladder.

“He was at QPR as a youngster and I’ve seen him plying his trade at a number of league clubs and a higher level after leaving QPR,” Bartley explained.

“He went to Staines this year and then when Marcus Gayle left the new manager didn’t really give him a chance and I’ve been speaking to him for a few weeks. He had a couple of things on the table, and I know he wants to go back higher.

“I said to him ‘look, you can come to us, play games, get a little bit fitter and sharper and then as long as you do what we know you can do on the pitch then I think those opportunities will open up for you’.”
