Marlow reaped the rewards for punishing their opponents’ mistakes as they recorded an impressive win against Stow-on-the-Wold.

A convincing 37-8 victory on Saturday was the perfect tonic to heal the scars of the previous weekend’s County Cup final defeat to Buckingham.

Head coach Richard Kinsey saw his team put Stow to the sword with six tries in a dominant display en route to securing a bonus point; a performance which he said bucked a recent trend for his side.

He said: “When they were making mistakes we were benefitting from it and scoring. That’s all I can ask from the guys.

“If you’re in a situation where they make mistakes, they give you the ball and we score that’s what’s happened to us in the last few games that we’ve lost.

“We’ve made mistakes and the opposition have pounced on that and punished us, but maybe there’s been a lot of learning from that because it was a complete role reversal on Saturday.”

The hosts went ahead courtesy of a Pete Lewis penalty after two minutes and never looked back as George Jafari and Clive Lambden added tries to give Marlow a 13-3 half-time lead.

Things got even better for the home side after the break with Shaun Miller, Harry Rodger, Shaun Richards and Jafari crossing for further scores.

Victory helped make amends for a 22-11 loss when the two sides met earlier in the season and Kinsey felt the performance was one of their best of the campaign so far.

“You can’t be unhappy with a turnaround against side that beat you in the first half of the season to getting a bonus point win at home,” he said.

“Obviously I’m very happy with that and the guys played very well. They should be happy and proud of themselves for what they’ve managed to achieve against a good side, and a side that are doing well in this league.

“It just goes to prove a point of how capable they are of doing well in this league. It’s about turning in performances like that week in, week out.”

Marlow have been consistently inconsistent this season racking up eight wins and seven defeats in the Southern Counties North, leaving them seventh in the table.

The challenge for Kinsey’s team on Saturday is to follow up their impressive display against Stow with another win when they travel to Wallingford tomorrow.

He said: “We’ve split the rest of the season into two halves. We had eight matches and this was the first match of the next four week programme and we couldn’t be happier with the result that we got. We have to now replicate that away at Wallingford next weekend.”
