Chalfont St Peter continued their freefall down the Southern One Central table after their winless run stretched to 11 games on Saturday.

Barton Rovers became the latest team to come away from Mill Meadow with all three points as they recorded a 3-1 win which saw Saints slip to 16th in the table.

Danny Edwards’ men were eyeing a play-off spot after a fine start to the season but one victory since the turn of the year has seen them fall 24 points behind the top five.

Injuries have plagued the Chalfont squad since January, particularly in defence, and their plight was evident as midfielder Alex Paine was used as an emergency centre-back against Rovers.

Barton are one of the sides still in with a shout of making it into the play-offs and they took the lead after 11 minutes.

Debutant Tony Mendy hit back for the hosts from the penalty spot six minutes later after a hand ball in the box, but the league’s top scorer, Lewis Putman, put his side ahead once again on the stroke of half-time.

Saints rarely threatened in the second period and they conceded a third goal with 16 minutes left to play.

Edwards will be hoping for a change in fortunes when he takes his team to Godalming Town on Saturday.

Marlow are three places and four points above Chalfont in the table following a hard earned point against Barton on Tuesday night.

Mark Bartley’s side, boosted by the return to the starting XI of Devontae Romeo, held out for a 0-0 draw away at the play-off chasers.

On Saturday Marlow were in action on home turf again against a team who have hopes of making the top five, but this time they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Royston Town.

Bartley’s men host Northwood at Oak Tree Road on Saturday.

After a weekend without a fixture Chesham United are back in action against Alrlesey Town at The Meadow this weekend.

Andy Leese’s side will be hoping to keep their slim chances of making the play-offs alive against a team who are currently third bottom in the Southern Premier.
