World champion Amir Khan has told a promising young fighter not to get downhearted after missing out on a third successive national title.
Jamal Khan won the English Championship in 2013 and 2014 and was hoping to make it a hat trick of victories.
But the 15-year-old from High Wycombe was beaten into second place by Jake Leeming, meaning he missed out on taking part in the Three Nations Championship - another title he's claimed in each of the last two years.
Amir Khan, a friend of the family, told the promising pugilist not to let the defeat get to him if he's to realise his dreams of becoming a professional fighter.
Jamal's father, Istasar, said: "Amir Khan was very proud of Jamal and says he is keeping a close eye on him.
"He sent Jamal a text saying well done and you'll be back, keep at it. He wished him the best, which was good because after a loss it's like the world's come crashing down."
He added: "Jamal finished second in England, which is a big achievement in itself.
"He's having a rest at the moment. He's had a long two or three years and it's been hard work. Next year is very important for him."
