The girls and ladies of Wycombe Phoenix Harriers athletics club enjoyed success at the opening event of the season on Sunday.

Lee Valley was the venue for the meet as the senior ladies team finished first in the Beta competition to earn promotion to the Alpha group.

The under-15 girls team were also in action and ended the competition in second place courtesy of some strong performances.

In the 800m personal bests (PB) were achieved by Ana Montgomery, Amelia Jarvis and Cerys Vico, who also clocked a PB in the 200m.

Emma Styles was in fine form as she achieved a PB in the 1500m, with Scarlett Storr and Amelia Jarvis also beating their previous bests in the shot put and javelin respectively.

Further success came via the under-17 team and seniors with Natasha Taylor and Megan Styles winning the A and B string 1500m events.

Jodie Lewin picked up a pair of second place finishes in the A string discus and B string javelin while Caitlin Neale took gold in the B string discus.

Lisa Fitzpatrick, Sophie Matthews and Rochelle Jack also delivered strong displays as Wycombe picked up more points than local rivals Chiltern Harriers and Watford Harriers.

The club will now prepare for their first under-20/under-17 Youth Development League match in Oxford on Saturday.
