Geri Nicosia drove his way to a top ten finish on the opening weekend of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch.

The Princes Risborough native was making his debut in the series after moving up from the Ford Fiesta Junior Championship, which he won in 2014.

In the first race of the day Nicosia, who drives for Elite Motorsport, qualified 14th on the grid and managed to work his way up two places by the chequered flag.

The 15-year-old showed his skill in the second and final race of the day when he finished four seconds behind the leader in eighth place.

He commented: “With two solid finishes, although further down the order than we'd have liked, I'm confident that when we get to a bigger tracks we will show our true pace and be right up there.”

“I’d just like to thank Edward Ives and everyone at Elite Motorsport for all that hard work over the weekend for giving me such a good car.”

Nicosia sits 11th overall in the standings after collecting 23 points for his work on the opening weekend.

The Sir William Borlase pupil will be in action this weekend when the championship heads to Donington Park for the competition’s next installment.
