A draw with high-flying Aylesbury FC on Saturday ensured Beaconsfield SYCOB will be playing Southern League football once again next season.

Three managers have overseen proceedings at Holloways Park during the course of a turbulent season, but safety has finally been secured, courtesy of the 1-1 draw, with two games to spare.

Andy Hurley began the campaign in the Rams hot seat before he was replaced by Gary Meakin, with the club third from bottom having picked up 19 points from their first 25 games.

A mini revival under Meakin ensued – taking 12 points from his nine games in charge – before Nas Bashir assumed control of first team matters in March.

The former Reading academy coach has won one, lost one and drawn five of his seven matches at the helm, the latest of which came against third place Aylesbury.

Beaconsfield were on top during the first 45 minutes and were unlucky not to go in front when Aaron Berry’s header cannoned off the crossbar.

After the break former SYCOB player Brian Haule struck the woodwork for the visitors with the first attack of the half before Victor Osubu and Berry passed up good opportunities for the hosts.

With 14 minutes left the Rams finally had the goal their play merited when a scramble in the Aylesbury box saw the ball break to Berry, who smashed the ball home.

The lead was to last for just four minutes however as Guram Guramishvili bought down Haule in the penalty area.

Becky old boy Haule picked himself up to beat Sam Bunting from the spot and give his current employers a share of the points.

A trip to play Aylesbury United in the club’s penultimate league fixture beckons on Saturday before they round off their season with a home game against Uxbridge seven days later.
