High Wycombe driver Ross Gunn hailed the Britcar 24 hour race as an “unbelievable” experience after he helped Beechdean AMR to victory at Silverstone on Sunday.

The 18-year-old took stints in the team’s Aston Martin Vantage alongside owner Andrew Howard, Jamie Chadwick, Jonny Adam and Harry Whale as they claimed a win in the GT4 class and an overall success having completed 529 laps when the chequered flag fell.

While other teams were plagued by reliability issues the Beechdean car enjoyed a trouble free 24 hours and finished five laps clear of nearest challengers St Bas Koeten Racing.

“I enjoyed driving in all of the conditions that were thrown at me, including in the rain and at night,” said Gunn.

“The car was faultless throughout which is testament to the work from everyone in the Beechdean AMR team.

“I would like to thank my team mates for doing a great job on track as well as giving me advice throughout the 24 hours.”

Gunn has been driving for Beechdean since March when Howard, who is chairman of Wycombe Wanderers, handed him a drive in the British GT Championship.

The youngster drives alongside 16-year-old Jamie Chadwick in the GT4 class of the championship and the pair picked up 18 points from the opening two rounds of the season at Oulton Park at the beginning of April.

Howard drives in the GT3 class and currently lies joint third in the standings of a championship he won back in 2013.

The Bitcar 24 hour race returned to Silverstone after a two-year absence from the motorsport calendar and Beechdean’s victory represented their first in an event which first took place at Snetterton in 1980.

Howard said: “To win our class was great but to capture the overall win was a great achievement for Beechdean AMR.

“The team made great calls on fuel strategy between safety cars and the pits stops were great. In these 24 hours races you need 100 per cent reliability in your car and we had that in the Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

“My teammates drove brilliantly in what were awful weather conditions throughout the night so a massive thank you to Harry, Jonny, Ross and Jamie. Britcar yet again put on a great event and the competition was tough in all classes. This result sets us up nicely for the remainder of the 2015 season.”

Gunn and Howard will clamber back behind the wheel again on Saturday when the second round of the GT Championship takes place at Rockingham.
