Bucks crashed out of the Unicorn Trophy on Sunday after rounding off a miserable campaign with defeat against Herefordshire at Brockhampton.

It was the county’s fourth straight loss and left them bottom of group four, having accrued no points.

An eight wicket defeat to Oxfordshire last time out was replicated by Herefordshire after they had won the toss and elected to field.

Bucks lost opener Richard Pritchard for a duck in the first over before they slipped to 17-3 following the dismissals of Shaan Khan (4) and Archie Hammond (1).

Michael Payne built a patient 26 off 92 balls and he received support from Hamza Riazuddin (22) and Dan Hampton (33) in the middle order.

George Russell top scored with a fluent 48, which came off just 55 balls, before they closed on a below par 169-8 after 50 overs.

The host county wasted no time in going about their business as their openers put on 140 for the first wicket.

Khan took 2-19 to partially slow the home side down but they reached their target with 18.3 overs to spare to inflict another heavy defeat on the visitors.

Bucks now have a couple of weeks to regroup ahead of the start of their Unicorns Twenty20 campaign against Harpenden on May 31.
