Geri Nicosia endured a “disappointing” weekend in the Ginetta Junior Championship at Thruxton on Sunday.

The 15-year-old found life tough in qualifying after initially setting the fastest lap time and lined up for race one 13th on the grid.

A good start saw the Sir William Borlase’s pupil move up two places before an incident with Lewis Brown, who was trying to overtake Nicosia, caused him to drop back to 13th.

Championship leader Senna Proctor overtook the youngster on the final lap to see him take the chequered flag in 14th position.

The second race of the day didn’t go to plan for the Bucks racer, who again started 13th on the grid.

In the opening laps the Princes Risborough native got clipped by another car meaning he was left with a damaged bonnet for the remainder of the race.

The young driver fought back to take one place on the final lap which saw him cross the line in 15th place.

Nicosia picked up 14 more points to take his tally to 47, leaving him 14th in the championship overall ahead of the next round at Oulton Park on 6-7 June.

He said: “It’s been a disappointing weekend; we need to qualify better so we don’t get caught up in mid-field incidents. But we have some more points where we might have had none and we will continue to look forwards.”
