Kazoku club bought home an impressive collection of medals after they journeyed to Southend to compete in the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament.

The event, which was held on May 24, saw the club take 19 players from their Marlow, High Wycombe and Maidenhead clubs to Essex in order to test their skills against hundreds of competitors from around the UK.

Kazoku’s junior team, comprising of 14 players aged five to 17, led the way and outshone their senior counterparts by pulling off a number of successes.

Charlie Parry was the club’s first medal winner of the day after the seven-year-old won gold in both the Sumo and Groundwork categories.

Parry’s brother Otto, who is just five-years-old, followed him onto the podium when he won bronze in his respective category.

Having been with the club for little over two years, two gold medals represented a superb return for Dillon Geronymakis.

The 16-year-old was fighting competitors a year older than himself but he still managed to come out on top in the Groundfighting and Continuous Sparring categories.

Akira Hooper won Kazoku’s fifth gold of the competition, also in Continuous Sparring, in the light weight bracket. The Marlow youngster, who at 17-years-old will be moving into the adult section as of next year, completed his afternoon’s work by picking up bronze in the Groundwork section.

Monty Wych rounded off an impressive overall haul for the junior section by adding two bronze medals to the equation.

It was good preparation for Wych, who will represent club and country at the United Nations of JuJitsu (UNJJ) World Championships in Denmark in August.
