Bucks CCC saw off Cambridgeshire by three wickets in their Unicorn Counties Championship match to record their second straight win.

The county kicked off their campaign with a record breaking win after chasing down 490 to win against Hertfordshire and they followed that up with another successful run chase at Wisbech on Tuesday.

A knock of 63 from opener Charlie MacDonell set Bucks on their way toward their 207 run target before Matt Rance (18*) and debutant Marwan Mohammed (4*) got them over the line.

The victory was made all the more satisfying following a first innings in which Bucks again gave up over 400 runs as Cambridgeshire took control of day one thanks to centuries from Asim Butt (123) and Ben Bryant (101*).

Chesham captain Matt Rance took 6-119 but his side faced a mountain to climb as the hosts reached 427-8 off 90 overs.

In response, MacDonell again top scored, crashing the ball to all parts of the ground before falling one shy of his century.

Michael Payne and Dan Hampton both contributed 83 to the cause as Bucks completed their allotted overs trailing by 39 as they closed on 382-8.

Jonathan Burden, a young seamer for High Wycombe, played a key role in Cambridgeshire’s demise in the second innings as he picked up 5-54 to help skittle the hosts out of 161.

Shaan Khan (5) went early before Shelvin Gumbs (44) put on 102 with MacDonell to set Bucks up nicely on 122-2.

A mini collapse which saw Payne (1), George Russell (8) and Jason Rance (0) fall cheaply threatened to derail their charge before the eighth wicket pair sealed successive wins.

Bucks, who are third in the table, next play Bedfordshire at Burnham on 5-7 July.
