A six off the last ball of the match handed Marlow a dramatic victory against local rivals Chesham in Division One of the Thames Valley Cricket League on Saturday.

The home side were nine wickets down in the final over of the contest but limped over the line after Graeme Paskins had earlier fired them towards the win with a knock of 103.

Chesham, who won the toss and elected to bat, compiled a highly competitive total of 258 all out from 51 overs with Andy Goddard (66) and Mark Eteen (58) the main contributors.

But Marlow scored at just above five runs an over in their run chase as they picked up 20 points for the win, taking them to fourth in the table ahead of a trip to Eversley this weekend.

Chesham are one place further back in fourth, with a home tie against second place Falkland on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Beaconsfield fell five runs short of grabbing a much needed win versus Wokingham as they were made to settle for a draw.

After restricting the visitors to 245-6, Chris Thomas led his side’s charge, the skipper hitting 84 as the home team’s innings came to a close on 241-7 after 48 overs.

Nilesh Odedra, who made 71, also contributed well for Beaconsfield, who will be hoping to climb off the bottom of the table when they face Cookham Dean on Saturday.

In Division 2B, Chesham hit the self destruct button as four batsmen failed to trouble the scorers after a solid foundation had been laid by openers Matt Watson (27) and David Hughes D’Aeth (35).

A total of 158 looked to be in adequate, and that’s how it proved to be after opponents Maidenhead and Bray recovered from 28-3 to coast to victory with 20 overs and four wickets to spare.

Despite the loss, Watson’s team stay second in the table, 15 points behind leaders Windsor ahead of a meeting with Tring Park seconds on Saturday.

High Wycombe seconds offered up stubborn resistance with the bat as they held on for a draw against Burnham.

Having seen the hosts declare on 292-7, Wycombe came up 46 runs short of their victory target as they closed on 247-8 off 53 overs, with Keith Newell contributing 58.

Their eight point haul leaves them fourth in the league as they prepare to welcome Hayes to London Road on Saturday.

Marlow Park recorded a win against local rivals Gerrards Cross seconds in Division 3B, triumphing by 29 runs after bowling their opponents out for 248 having made 277-8.

Amersham seconds fared worse, going down to a resounding 123-run defeat at the hands of Wooburn Narkovians.

Elsewhere, Princes Risborough, Amersham thirds and Chesham thirds were victorious, while Chalfont St Peter, Wycombe Dragons and Beaconsfield seconds all suffered losses.
