Chinnor will compete in the FA Cup for only the second time in the club’s history after equalling their highest ever league position last season.

Manager David Ridgeley and his team will host Combined Counties Premier League side Hartley Wintney, a club that were just one win away from the first round proper last season, in the extra preliminary round on August 15.

On the one and only previous occasion that the club, who play in Division One East of the Hellenic League, entered the FA Cup, they were defeated by Camberley Town at the first hurdle two seasons ago.

“What a fantastic draw for us,” mentioned assistant manager Craig Williams.

“We missed out on qualification last season, and after equalling our highest ever finish we have been accepted this season.

“For a village team to play in such a world famous competition is fantastic. We come up against a team we know nothing about and to get a home tie in the draw has worked in all our favours.

“We know an even bigger tie awaits us in the next round where we come up against Southern League side Banbury United, but we have our first hurdle to jump first.”

Chinnor also kicked off their pre-season preparations with a 4-0 defeat against Thame United on Tuesday (14 July) evening.
