Chesham sprung a surprise in Division One of the Thames Valley Cricket League by downing pacesetters Falkland by four wickets.

Max McIver, who struck an unbeaten 37, saw the hosts past the winning post in the final over of the match, striking a six off the second ball to seal the victory.

Bucks batsmen Hamza Riazuddin hit the bulk of his side’s runs, compiling 106 not out as the visitors posted 216-6 after being put into bat.

In reply, Matt Rance and Barney Atkins fell early on before a superb partnership between Andy Goddard (70) and captain Jason Rance set them en route to victory, which was achieved in the 48th over.

The result leaves Chesham in fifth place ahead of a meeting with second bottom Eversley on Saturday.

Beaconsfield continue to prop up the table after Cookham Dean condemned them to a seventh defeat of the campaign.

Chasing 273 to win, the visitors were never in contention to reach their target and they fell 93 runs short as they were bowled out for 179.

Nilesh Odedra top scored with 64 for Becky, who will look to give themselves hope of avoiding relegation when they entertain Falkland on the weekend.

At the other end of the league, Marlow continued their strong season by thrashing Eversley, leaving them just two points adrift of league leaders Cookham.

Graham Paskins blasted 76 as Marlow were bowled out for 240 in the 52nd over – a target their opponents fell 98 runs short of after losing all ten wickets with just 142 on the board. Marlow take on Stoke Green at home on Saturday.

Chesham seconds came within one wicket of securing a victory against Tring Park in Division 2A, but were made to settle for a draw.

Alex Watson (46*) helped his side post 174-9 before he picked up 3-25 with the ball to peg Tring Park back early on.

Chris Royals weighed in with 4-28 but the visitors held on, leaving Chesham second in the table ahead of a game versus Harefield on Saturday.

Division 2B saw High Wycombe second romp to a nine-wicket success, Keith Newell seeing the hosts home with a superb knock of 98 not out.

Wycombe had earlier bowled Hayes out for 189 before cruising to victory for the loss of just one wicket.

Gerrards Cross seconds were handsomely beaten by their Amersham counterparts in Division 3B as Ben Langley’s men chalked up a nine-wicket win.

In the same division, Marlow Park fell 32 runs short against Chenies and Latimer and Wooburn Narkovians picked up a five-wicket success against Sonning.

Elsewhere, Beaconsfield seconds, Chalfont St Peter and Princes Risborough were defeated, while Wycombe Dragons, Amersham thirds and Chesham thirds were all victorious.
