Three crews from Great Marlow School Boat Club medalled at British Junior Championships in Strathclyde last weekend.

Wet and windy surroundings in Scotland made for some difficult rowing conditions but after making it through unscathed in the time trials on Saturday, the trio of crews each bagged silver medals on Sunday.

The J18 boys pair of Ross Honey and James Wheal set the tone for a successful event when they claimed second place, narrowly missing out to Thames after leading for the majority of the 2000m race.

Next up to grab a medal was the boys J15 coxed quad of Oli Peace, Oli Emmett-Bird, Carl Smith, Jamie-Jack Westfold and cox Lottie Hughes, who held off the Royal Grammar School to take silver.

Last but not least, the girls J16 coxed four of Amy Pyle, Leanna Beswick, Hannah Brown, Pippa Young and cox Hughes lost out to Henley for the gold medal.

Head coach Fergus Murison said: “To have all three crews medal at British Rowing Championships is something that we have not experienced before and to bring home three silver medals having witnessed three fantastic races from the crews is great news for the club.

“It’s a wonderful end to a very successful year across all year groups at Great Marlow School Boat Club and we look forward to an even more successful 2015/16 season.”

The regatta success gave the club extra reason to celebrate following their annual awards dinner, which took place at the Crowne Plaza in Marlow on July 14.

Paralympic gold medallist Naomi Riches was the guest of honour on the night and was on hand to present 13 awards in front of the assembled 180-strong audience of parents and rowers.

The Overall Achievement award was won by Francesca Reynolds and Dan Magnussen while Crew of the Year went to the the Year 10 boys eight, who won the prestigious Schools Head of the River race.
