Beaconsfield RFC under-7s made it to the final of the inaugural Oakman Cup at Allianz Park on Sunday.

After putting up a valiant fight in the final they lost out to Tring in front of a crowd of 700 people at the home of Aviva premiership Champions Saracens.

The tournament was organised by Oakman Inns and attracted 30 teams from nine different clubs across the under-7 to under-10 age groups and aimed to promote the key values of rugby.

“It has been a fantastic day and I’m so proud of every one of these young players who have taken to heart all the core values which are inherent in rugby,” Oakman Inns’ CEO, Peter Borg-Neal, said.

“Sport at this level is a vital part of the health and happiness of a local community which is why we are so delighted to support all these young players.”

The nine teams involved all came from across the South of England and are sponsored in some way by Oakman Inns while the Rugby Football Union has also offered its support for the event.

Towcestrians, who are based in Northamptonshire, were the dominant side on the day as they won three of the age groups at the mini rugby tournament.

The tournament concluded with all the clubs and their families being invited to stay at the stadium to watch the Rugby World Cup semi-final between Australia and Argentina.
